To build on work previously funded by the Foundation to support the Bessemer Farmland Exchange project, an unusual coalition of municipal water providers, city planners, and agricultural interests in Pueblo to develop a system to protect valuable farmland by exchanging key parcels in less fertile areas.
Gates funded the 2016 project (via the Rocky Mountain Farmer’s Union) that laid the groundwork for this effort, and, encouraged by the progress made in building a strong coalition, invited a proposal to support this next phase.
