Project Description

The Public Education & Business Coalition (PEBC) Teacher Residency program has trained teachers in Colorado for nearly 30 years. More than 900 teacher residents have been trained and gone on to become high-quality teachers.

The PEBC Residency trains high-quality teachers who stay in the field of teaching longer than the national average, based on national teacher retention data. In addition to training high-quality teachers, PEBC Residency delivers a range of additional benefits to participating school districts, the state, and most importantly, to students.

Based on a report by Social Impact Solutions (SIS) completed in July 2021, residency programs across the nation have repeatedly demonstrated increased student academic achievement, increased teacher longevity in the field, improved school culture, and improved quality of teaching from those teachers who mentor residents who are already strong educators.

PEBC Residency represents one of many strategies that will be needed to address significant teacher shortage across Colorado’s school districts. The pay-for-success investment will provide upfront capital to PEBC to expand the program to more teachers. As teachers stay in the profession for at least three years, investors get paid back.
