Walter R. Obermeyer

Wally Obermeyer, a Colorado native, lives in Aspen and brings a Western Slope perspective to the Gates Family Foundation. He has a keen interest in the environment, education and economics.
Wally is President and Co-Chairman of Obermeyer Wood Investment Counsel, LLLP, an investment advisory firm with offices in Aspen and Denver that manages approximately $1.7 billion for clients residing in roughly 40 states.
Wally is also Vice-Chairman of his family’s ski wear business and is the president of a hydroelectric generation company.
In addition to his service for the Gates Family Foundation, Wally serves on the Denver Museum of Nature and Science Foundation board and on the board of the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies. He is also working on a project to promote improved capital allocation in the public sector.
Wally earned his bachelor’s degree from Harvard College and his master’s in business administration from Harvard Business School.
Wally and his wife, Helen, enjoy hiking, biking, and skiing, as well as travel. Wally is also a passionate aviator.
