Leslie Sabin

Vice President for Finance, Administration, and Impact Investing

Leslie joined the Gates Family Foundation in July 2024 as the Vice President for Finance, Operations and Impact Investing. In her role, Leslie is responsible for overseeing the Foundation’s financial management, impact investing strategy, investment consultants, governance, operations, risk management, human resources, and administrative functions.

Leslie is a strategic and impact-focused finance and operations executive with over 17 years of experience in nonprofit and foundation management. She brings significant experience working with nonprofit, public, and private foundations and is enthusiastic about maximizing the social impact of philanthropic capital to build resilient communities. Leslie’s approach to leadership is rooted in collaboration and a commitment to equity, community and social impact.

Prior to joining the Gates Family Foundation, Leslie served as Chief Financial Officer at the Santa Fe Community Foundation from 2023 to 2024, and as Vice President of Finance & Operations at the Pikes Peak Community Foundation from 2015-2023. In both roles, she was a member of the leadership team, overseeing investments, impact investments, finance, human resources, and operations, and playing a role in asset development, strategic planning and fundholder and community engagement. Prior to her time in community foundations, Leslie spent four years with Catholic Health Initiatives Foundation and three years working in public accounting at BKD (now Forvis Mazars US). 

A licensed CPA since 2009, Leslie holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting with a Finance minor from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. She regularly presents at national and regional conferences on foundation management, endowment stewardship, and impact investing, and from 2018-2024 served as faculty for the Council on Foundations providing educational courses on finance and foundation management.

Beyond her professional roles, Leslie is engaged in board and community service. She currently serves as Treasurer for Court Care, and has previously served as chair of the Best Practices committee and board member for the Foundation Finance Officers Group (FAOG), on the executive committee for the New Mexico Impact Investors Collaborative, as a mentor to accounting and finance students at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs and on the executive team for Survive and Thrive, a small business loan program that raised and re-loaned $2.5 million in philanthropic capital to businesses in El Paso County during the COVID-19 pandemic.  In her free time, Leslie enjoys relaxed strolls with family and is drawn to the natural beauty of Colorado, often capturing it on canvas, clay or exploring it on horseback.
