The people, communities, and natural resources of Colorado are the inspiration behind the 72-year legacy of philanthropy continued at the Gates Family Foundation. Since its creation in 1946, the Foundation has evolved from a corporate and community well-being initiative of the Gates Rubber Company, to a private family foundation known for its capital grantmaking, to its current iteration as a multi-faceted strategic partner active in the fields of education, natural resources, and community development.

History & Legacy
Colorado offered Charles C. Gates Sr. a place to establish a business and raise his family. In return, the Gates Family Foundation has been the vehicle through which the family has given back to the state.
Coming in March 2019: Our staff and board members will spotlight 2018 work and trends in strategic impact areas that are vital to Coloradans’ quality of life — educational equity, natural resources, and vibrant communities.
