“It’s hard to be of this place and not see its potential. And yet also I am very much a realist — and I feel strongly that we cannot continue on down the path that we have been on.” Clark Anderson, executive director of Community Builders, shares their model for creating healthy, equitable, and prosperous communities in Colorado and beyond.

Gates Family Foundation first invested in Community Builders in 2015, with a grant that equipped local leaders on Colorado’s Western Slope to drive real change, by planning for and managing rapid growth and preserving natural resources. Through training, resources, and technical assistance, Community Builders helps local leaders shift their economic development efforts toward capitalizing on existing businesses and community amenities. This improves the quality of life for both businesses and residents, creating real opportunity for the people that live there.

COLORADO VOICES is a series produced by the Gates Family Foundation, to amplify individuals and ideas that are advancing educational equity, vibrant and sustainable communities, and stewardship of our state’s extraordinary natural resources.
