Here is an important announcement. Click here to learn more.

Eight senior public officials from state and local governments across Colorado have been selected to attend a three-week program at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, as members of Gates Family Foundation’s 44th class of Harvard Fellows.

Since 1980, Gates sponsorship has enabled more than 300 of Colorado’s top civic leaders to participate in the Kennedy School’s Senior Executives in State and Local Government Program. The program operates as an interactive classroom, where fellows work with peers and Harvard faculty to analyze case studies of real issues, find solutions to complex problems, and work together and learn from each other.

The 2024 Gates Family Foundation Harvard Fellows are:

  • Olympia Fay, Judge, Denver County Court
  • Michael Guzman, Director District C, Regional Transportation District
  • Conor Hall, Director, Office of Outdoor Recreation Industry, State of Colorado
  • Anne Keke, Board of Directors, Aurora Public Schools
  • Julie McCluskie, Speaker of the House, Colorado State House of Representatives
  • Jeslin Shahrezaei, Mayor Pro Tem, City of Lakewood
  • Danielle Summerville, Cultural & Community Outreach Programs Manager, City of Colorado Springs
  • Lance Waring, County Commissioner, San Miguel County

Congratulations to all of these dedicated civic leaders, who were selected from among a highly competitive pool of 41 applicants.

Each spring, Gates invites elected, appointed, and career officials from state and local governments across Colorado to apply to the Kennedy School program. Anyone can apply to the Harvard program, but Gates only sponsors those that are selected those that are selected through the Gates Fellowship application and interview process.

Gates Family Foundation pays all but a small portion of the total program cost — which includes tuition, housing, curricular materials, and most meals. Participants or their employers are responsible for funding the balance. More information is here.
