A Collective Approach to Recruiting Teachers of Color for Denver Schools

Research suggests that diverse teachers can better serve diverse students. Yet while 75% of Denver Public Schools’ (DPS) students are students of color, only 25% of its teachers are educators of color.

In its pilot year, Make Your Mark — with leadership from the Denver Mayor’s Office for Children and Families, collaboration with DPS and eight local charter school operators, and support from a coalition of funders including the Gates Family Foundation — is taking a collective approach to address this human capital dilemma.
